Debra J. Guzov
runs SN's New York office and is an honors graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University (A.B. 1983) and Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University (J.D.) 1987. At Cardozo, Ms. Guzov was an Editor of the Moot Court Board, an Eastern Region Finalist in the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition, and an Invitee to the International Law Journal. Ms. Guzov is admitted to practice law in the state and federal courts in New York and New Jersey.
Ms. Guzov is an experienced litigation and trial attorney, having conducted trials in the New York State and Federal Courts and the International Court of Justice in a wide variety of complex commercial matters including, for example, a high profile trial involving a major boxing figure and a hotel-casino involving interpretation of his promoter contract, a copyright trial involving rights to music recordings contained in videotapes and numerous breach of licensing agreement cases. Ms. Guzov has successfully litigated matters involving finance company claims, international letters of credit for foreign banks, enforcement of licensing agreements, charter party agreement claims for shipping companies, products liability and insurance coverage and defense. She has successfully defended companies before the Federal Trade Commission and defended individuals and companies in NASD investigations.
Having worked for many years at an international law firm, Ms. Guzov knows the complexities of international litigation and arbitration, including the procedures for the taking of evidence abroad, the prosecution and defense of lawsuits before international tribunals, the Hague convention, and the seizure of assets located abroad. Ms. Guzov is a highly experienced appellate practitioner, having secured many victories in state and federal appellate courts. Ms. Guzov has also successfully conducted arbitrations for securities and commodities clients before the NASD and the AAA. Ms. Guzov has been involved in numerous successful mediations before the NASD, the NYSE, the Southern District Mediation Program, and the New York Supreme Court Commercial Division Mediation Program.
In addition to her litigation and trial experience, Ms. Guzov prepares and negotiates licensing agreements for clients in diverse industries, ranging from technology-based industries to the apparel industry. She also regularly advises clients on corporate partnership and limited liability company formation. |
